In the seminar, Rick will use principles and generalizations to explain how academic writing is understood by readers and present tools to help participants to improve their writing. Because everything in academic writing depends on the context, his explanations of these principles and tools will be most relevant and helpful if participants share context, samples, and challenges they face in their specific writing projects.

When applying, you may submit short writing samples (≤500 words) about your academic research. These samples can be taken from previous writing projects, but should not have been edited by others. From some of the received samples, Rick will select small portions for inclusion in on-screen demonstrations during the seminar (please do not send anything that is confidential). Other than the selected samples that will be shown and analyzed during the seminar, the samples will not be edited.
